Picture Book Recommendation: MINE!

Cover of Mine! by Shutta Crum

“Mine, mine, mine”

An almost wordless picture book shows the relationship of two toddlers with their toys and their dog. Anyone who has toddlers knows the joys of learning to share, and these “joys” are illustrated in a lively manner.

Happily, the two toddlers manage to work out their sharing issues without any adult intervention.

Children and parents alike will relate to the situation and enjoy making up their own stories while flipping through the pages of this delightful book.

Naturally, this is a good book to set out any time there is a playgroup, or other setting with multiple toddlers to show that sharing can be fun.

Themes: sibling rivalry, sharing

  1. Just saw this! What a wonderful surprise…thank you for posting about MINE! I absolutely adore the stunning illustrations by Patrice Barton. She is, somehow, able to get every little facial nuance down in her artwork–pretty hard to do when one is painting babies with smooth skin. When I first saw her artwork, I knew she was perfect for this book. Here’s a link to more info about MINE! including a video of Patrice and how she created the artwork, and a bibliography of other books about sharing. It’s at: http://blog.shutta.com/books-2/mine/ . (If that link is not live in the comment, you can just go to my site http://www.shutta.com, hover over the “Books” tab and select “Mine!” )

    Cheers!
